Incorporated in 1792, the town of Bethlehem, New York is embedded with a rich history matched with contemporary flair. Bethlehem is a bedroom community suburb just south of Albany and is home to over 30,000 residents in the Delmar, Glenmont and Slingerlands areas of town. Its prime location on the bank of the Hudson River, in driving distance from mountains and metropolitan New York City, has made Bethlehem real estate ideal for many. Living in Bethlehem means you are a part of a community with low crime rates and a strong economic base. Crime rates are well below the national average, which strengthens the local real estate market, and unemployment is also below the national average at about 5%. The town is divided into distinct hamlets, each with its own feel and look. As a whole, the hamlets lend an eclectic aesthetic to the town. The best median home price is around $250,000.

Schools, Health, Transportation

Most residents are served by the Bethlehem Central School District, which includes six elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. Bethlehem Central High School is located in the hamlet of Delmar and educates over 1,700 students. In 2010 Newsweek named it a Top U.S. High School. The Albany Medical Center is only a short drive from Bethlehem and serves as the major referral center for all of Albany County. The Medical Center has received numerous awards and incorporates one of the largest teaching hospitals in the country. Many of its current doctors are graduates of the nearby College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Albany.

Bethlehem’s prime location makes getting around easy and convenient. Whether it’s using public transportation in town or using highway access to get away, Bethlehem’s transportation provides efficient routes and safe travel. New York City, Boston and Montreal are all within less than a day’s drive, and with the Albany International Airport only minutes away, distant travel for business or pleasure is easily accessible.
